Synopsis

Elmer Stone, quarterback of the 1899 Colton College football squad, marries Nellie Webster, pledging himself to stay at school until his team defeats State University; 1926 finds Elmer still studying, and though his wife has died, Jack, their son, is now a schoolmate. While being hazed, young Stone is blindfolded and told to kiss the first girl he meets, who turns out to be Louise Mason. Trying out for the team, Jack becomes friendly with "Lumpy" Goggins, and they develop a unique system for milk delivery, based on forward passing. At the county fair, Louise persuades Jack to race against Streak Hodkins; Jack wins but refuses the prize money. As a consequence, Jack is disqualified from playing on the team and blames this action on Louise. He is reinstated by the dean, however, and, spurred on by Louise, he leads the team to victory.
