Synopsis
On the French island of Royale, Antoinette, a young and hoydenish girl, soon falls in love with Georges, the governor's son. He is called off to war, and Antoinette's life is made miserable by Katherine, the village gossip; when her son, Axel, a vicious lout, accosts Antoinette, the girl is banished from the island by the governor, who believes her a moral menace. Georges returns home blinded, and a famous surgeon is summoned to perform an operation to restore his eyesight; agitated by the girl's absence, Georges persuades the governor to find her. His search uncovers her in a Paris jail unjustly accused of a crime and therefore embittered. She returns and is happily reunited with her lover when he regains his sight.
