William Shelby, a music store clerk, becomes engaged to wealthy Joan Kendricks and greatly impresses her father by affirming that he will not marry Joan until he is in a position to support her comfortably. William loses his job and becomes the director of an exclusive girls' school in the country. Joan eventually learns that she has misjudged William, and they again receive her father's blessing to be married.
