Synopsis
Lem Blossom--inventor, fire chief of Mosville, and son of a pumpkin farmer--falls in love with unsophisticated country girl Mary Griggs. His rival for her hand is the worldly Tom Perkins, who is conspiring with her father, Joshua, to corner the pumpkin market. When Lem fails to sell his father's pumpkins, Pa Blossom in desperation turns bootlegger. Lem learns that the pumpkin crop up north has been destroyed by frost and attempts to corner the market in the county by offering a $1,000 prize for the largest pumpkin. The Griggs home catches fire, and Lem saves the father and daughter with the aid of his water pump and folding ladder, both his own inventions. Joshua Griggs helps Lem corner the pumpkin market and blesses the union of Lem and Mary.
