Synopsis

Nell Sanders, a girl of the lower East Side slums, is compelled to work in the saloon of Sid McGovern as scrubbing woman. Her sweetheart Jim, in rescuing her from the attentions of Al McGovern, kills Al and is sent to prison for 7 years. Meanwhile, Nell is befriended by Maggie, a Salvation Army girl, and after the birth of her child she joins the ranks and becomes a valuable speaker. When Jim is released, he finds Nell being courted by Major Williams; and though she still loves Jim, she refuses to return to their former life. Jim is at last convinced of her sincerity, and he pledges to start a new life with her.
