Synopsis

With seeming altruism, Alvarez, the executor of Florence Stanton's late uncle's estate, assigns himself the task of taking care of Florence, who has spent most of her life in a convent. Really, however, he plans to hypnotize her in order to get her fortune all for himself. He begins by compelling Florence to make drastic cuts in the wages of workers in the factory she inherited, and then wills her to institute various inhumane conditions in the factory. Hearing about Florence's sudden shift in temperament, a young psychologist becomes interested in the case and determines that it is Alvarez who has brought on Florence's metamorphosis from "saint" to "devil." To treat Florence, the psychologist pits his own brand of mind control against that of Alvarez and finally breaks his spell, after which Alvarez commits suicide. Then, having fallen in love with his patient, the psychologist marries her.
