Synopsis

Sally, an asylum waif, is adopted by Mrs. Du Fay, an old woman who teaches dancing. When the kindly teacher loses all her pupils, Sally goes to work as a dishwasher in a cafe run by Pops Shendorf. There she meets the Duke of Checkergovinia, a European nobleman fallen on hard times who makes his living as a waiter. Sally also meets Blair Farquar, a wealthy young society man to whom she is most attracted. Sally gets a chance to dance at the cafe, and she is an instant hit. A famous Russian dancer disappears, and Sally is hired to impersonate her at a ball given in the Farquar mansion. Sally dances beautifully and finds herself surrounded by adulation, but Pops, who has followed her to the ball, exposes her as a kitchen drudge. Mr. Farquar orders her from his home, and Sally returns to Mrs. Du Fay. The great Ziegfeld, however, was a guest at the Farquar party, and he signs Sally to dance in the Follies. She is soon a great star, and Blair eventually persuades her to marry him.
