Brief Synopsis

Hugh Garth hides from the law in the frozen Canadian northwest along with his young brother Pete and Pete's former nurse, Bella, who loves Hugh unrequitedly. When a lost and snowblind girl stumbles into their camp, Hugh falls in love with her and misleads her as to the age and relationship of Pete and Bella, in hopes of keeping the girl's attentions directed at himself. But when the girl's sight returns, she realizes the truth and discovers that Pete has fallen in love with her. But Hugh's cruel nature now threatens them both.

Synopsis

Hugh Garth, fleeing a murder charge in England, makes his home in the Canadian Northwest with his younger brother, Pete, and Bella, a girl devoted to Hugh despite his brutal ways. One day, he finds Sylvia, member of a strolling theatrical group, blinded by glare from the snowdrifts, and she falls in love with him. However, recovering her sight and discovering the truth about Hugh, she conceals her recovery and when caught in a blizzard with Pete reveals her love for him instead. Realizing Sylvia does not love him, Hugh departs with Bella down the rapids, leaving the lovers together.
