Synopsis

Along the Canada-United States border, Bruce Mitchell tries to force Lois Wheeler to marry him by threatening to have John, her father, arrested for not being able to produce a deed to land that rightfully belongs to Bruce. Determined not to become Bruce's wife, Lois goes into the woods and, disguised as a young man, hunts down the woman-hating Jean Corteau, who has the deed. Jean is delighted at having a male companion, and thus becomes furious when he discovers that his new friend is a woman. Soon, however, he realizes that Lois is not at all like the Parisian woman who jilted him years before, after which Jean and Lois fall in love. Bruce comes after them, but he dies after falling off a cliff while fighting Jean. Lois and Jean then get married and decide to remain in the forest rather than return to "civilization."
