Synopsis

Elmer Finch is nervously living in fear of his own shadow, browbeaten by his wife, bothered by her offspring, and awed by his employer, Mr. Harvey. Terrorized at breakfast, and hastened off to work at the urging of his stepson's mastiff, Elmer finds a horseshoe and tosses it over his shoulder--crashing it through the plate-glass window of a local jeweler. The chase by the constabularies is on, and Finch flees into the center of a vaudeville hypnotist's act, which soon entrances him and gives him the courage of a lion. The meek former mouse of a man then goes to work but reverses 20 years of disparaging treatment: he collects an overdue account from notorious skinflint Amos Barker, browbeats the board of directors, and lands a $15,000 contract without half trying. He returns home, has a well-deserved revenge upon his in-laws, and assumes the respect due him as the head of his household.
