Synopsis

John Walton, an embittered millionaire, suffers a nervous breakdown, but because of his violent temper, each of his nurses resigns until Eveline Roland accepts the job. From Lew the butler, Eveline learns that John, some years earlier, had saved a young man named Alexander Vernon from suicide and then took him into his business firm as a partner. John planned to marry Louise Palmer, a schoolteacher, but upon meeting Alexander, she fell deeply in love and married him instead. The partnership dissolved, John then became consumed with the desire for revenge. Armed with this knowledge and a great understanding of human nature, Eveline gradually effects a change in John, and in the end, he forgives his old enemies and happily marries his nurse.
