Synopsis
Henry Vale faces a seventeen-year jail sentence for killing the man whom he believed to be the lover of his wife, singer Emily North. Unconcerned, Emily leaves her daughter Constance with a relative and goes to Europe, where she becomes an opera star. When he finally is released, Henry simply wants to take a look at Constance, because he is afraid that he might embarrass her in front of her husband and child if he introduces himself as her father. Then, while he wanders around her home hoping to see her from a distance, he arouses the suspicion of the police, and they arrest him on a burglary charge. Once again he goes to jail, but Constance finds out about him, and manages to convince the governor to release him. Then, after Constance and her father are reunited, Emily finally returns from Europe, and with Henry's help is reconciled with her daughter, whom she always had considered less important than her career.
