Synopsis

In New York, Bill Stratton proposes to Evelyn Durant, whose father Matthew she believes to be the wealthiest miner in Alaska. When Bill prevents his friend's wife, Bess Brown, from eloping with Jack Belmont, however, Evelyn misconstrues Bill's intentions and breaks their engagement. Disconsolate, Bill settles in the Alaskan mining town of Yellow Gulch, where he renews his enmity with Belmont, who now owns the local hotel. He also meets Evelyn's poverty-stricken father, who, having lied to his daughter about his wealth and status for years, panics upon learning that she plans to visit. Bill meets Evelyn at the station and gently tells her the truth, but she interprets his story as a ploy to regain her affections and leaves with Jack, who has promised to take her to Matthew's mine. Knowing that Jack's intentions are dishonorable, Bill tries to rescue her, and following several fights, including a particularly fierce one in which Jack finally is killed, he convinces Evelyn that his love is genuine and reunites her with her father.
