Synopsis

On a stormy English night, Dorothy Cruickshank and William Westwood elope, then are forced to take refuge in the home of Jasper Thorndyke. Close behind are Dorothy's parents, who know nothing of William or the elopement. They, too, seek shelter at Sir Jasper's. The next morning, Sir Jasper, who has fallen in love with Dorothy, nobly undertakes the task of reconciling the parents with the children, and a lavish London wedding is planned. While tending to Sir Jasper's horse in a London stable, Dorothy becomes trapped in a fire, and Sir Jasper rescues her, badly burning himself in the process. As Dorothy tends to his burns, her attachment to him grows deeper. After learning of a secret entry in her diary, William becomes suspicious of Dorothy's feelings for the older man, and Sir Jasper is on the verge of confessing his love for her, but finally chooses to remain silent, allowing youth to marry youth.
