Synopsis

In a small Irish village, Brian Kelly gives up his sweetheart, Madge Callahan, to enter the priesthood. Father Kelly settles in Ohio and later New York, where, responding to the dying request of Edward Wilton, the priest promises to look after young Bruce Wilton, whom he later learns is Madge's son. Father Kelly sends Bruce to college, and the young man becomes a successful stockbroker. On a trip to the West, Bruce marries Vera Wallace, not knowing that his friend, Kenward Wright, also loves her. After Bruce builds Father Kelly a cathedral, the vengeful Kenward visits the married couple, but Vera's sister Alice, whom Kenward betrayed, also appears, promising to reveal Bruce's financial secrets if he will marry her. Kenward then ruins Bruce on Wall Street, after which Bruce, believing that Vera betrayed him, becomes an alcoholic. On the steps of Father Kelly's church, Kenward clears Vera's name, whereupon Bruce takes her hand and enters the cathedral.
