Synopsis

Daniel B. Hoyt, an innocent man sentenced to life imprisonment through circumstantial evidence, is paroled after 15 years because he is not expected to live. He plans to visit his niece, Carolyn McLane, who believes him dead, and remain unseen. Anthony Fielding, son of the judge who sentenced Hoyt, proposes to Carolyn; she mistakes her uncle for a burglar, but Bennett, the family lawyer, is forced to tell her the story of her uncle's past. Learning of his son's relationship with Carolyn, Judge Fielding refuses to consent to their marriage. Hoyt commits suicide, leaving a letter to the judge stating that he is making his son, Tony, victim of a plot that will cause his arrest. Tony is arrested for Hoyt's murder, and the letter is mistakenly destroyed before reaching the judge, but Carolyn discovers a duplicate, thus saving her lover and assuring their happiness.
