Synopsis
Although Mamie Stone has been accused of the murder of Jim Wright on circumstantial evidence, she refuses to testify in her own defense at her trial. Her lawyer, however, discloses that Wright, a philanderer, was the common-law father of Mamie's son, Donald, and the jury acquits her. Jim's wife, Gloria, who hates Mamie, persuades Donald to leave his mother's house and strike out on his own. When Mamie learns of this, she bitterly denounces Gloria and reveals that she has known all along that Gloria killed Wright to protect her own honor and reputation. Overcome by love and gratitude for Mamie's sacrificial silence, Gloria vows that together they will do everything to make Donald's life a happy one.
