Synopsis

Melville Carruthers calls upon his sweetheart, Grace Adams, with the intention of proposing, but is overcome by bashfulness. He goes to a café, is knocked unconscious in a fight, and awakens in his room the next day to find a cabaret girl taking care of him. When Grace and her mother call upon Carruthers, he is unable to explain the presence of the girl and Grace becomes enraged. The doctor who is summoned diagnoses Carruthers as temporarily insane and uses him as a subject for mental suggestion tests, experimenting upon him with poison and threatening letters. Taking pity upon Carruthers, the cabaret girl explains the situation to Grace who promises to marry him that day. While getting ready for the ceremony, the prospective bridegroom discovers a dead body in his kitchen, is attacked by a desperate gang, escapes and convinces Grace of his sanity, and the two are finally married.
