Synopsis
Toby, Steve, and Joe, three coal miners who live together, have their happy home broken up when Steve brings Mary, an orphan, home after rescuing her in a snowstorm on Christmas Eve. She and Steve fall in love and plan to marry. The day after Christmas, disaster strikes the coal mines. Steve, Joe, and 10 other miners become trapped in a remote shaft behind a barricade while fires rage throughout the mine. After three days of searching, the rescue party gives up hope of finding them. Rescuers hear a tapped message, however, while Mary, anxiously waiting at the mine entrance, is convinced by a dream that Steve is still alive. The rescuers resume their efforts, drill down into the shaft, and reach the miners just as the fire threatens to destroy the barricade.
