Synopsis
Paving contractors Murphy and Riley, on the verge of ruin, are desperate to get a contract with Alderman McGinnis. Rita, a party girl, announces herself to have been hired as their stenographer by the alderman the night before, while Violet Clark, followed by Larry, Riley's son, arrives from an employment agency. When the landlord demands the rent, they urge McGinnis to sign the contract, but he insists on seeing their latest project. Murphy buys a hat for the alderman, loses it, steals the mayor's hat, and is chased by a police sergeant. At a stag dinner, the alderman becomes excited over a dancer and the party is raided. Later, Rita is offered as the alderman's secretary, and complications ensue, involving his wife, who catches him in an embarrassing situation. Rita signs the contract for McGinnis, and all ends happily.
