Synopsis

Lionel Jamieson, a gambling house proprietor whose brutality has rendered his wife paralytic, takes his young stepdaughter from a convent and proposes to use her as a lure for customers. Tommy, an employee of Jamieson's who sympathizes with the mother and daughter, falls in love with Betty; with the assistance of Gunga Din, an old stablehand, he is training his horse Thunderclap for a racing event. When Jamieson is caught cheating by a client, his victim threatens to kill him unless he repays his loss of $40,000; and the gambler's friend, Foster, agrees to help provided that his horse wins against Thunderclap. Jamieson plots to blow up a bridge and destroy Tommy's horse, but Gunga Din, suspecting foul play, takes the horse safely to the track. Tommy rescues Betty from abduction by Chinese, returns to the track, and rides Thunderclap to victory. Jamieson is killed by his victim, and the shock restores his wife to health.
