Three Word Brand

1h 8m 1921

Brief Synopsis

Ben Trego dies defending his twin sons from Indian attack. Separated, the two boys grow up very differently, one as Paul Marsden, the other as a cowboy named Three Word Brand. Paul becomes governor of Utah while Brand partners with George Barton in a ranch. The owner of the adjacent ranch plots to get Barton and Brand out of the way in order to control water rights. When Governor Marsden comes to the area to investigate, Brand sees the resemblance between them, though neither knows about his twin. Brand waylays Paul and takes his place as governor in an attempt to thwart the crooked rancher in the water rights scheme.

Synopsis

Ben Trego, a pioneer ambushed by Indians, sends his twin boys to safety and kills himself rather than fall into the hands of his attackers. The twins grow to manhood in separate parts of Utah: Marsden is governor of the state, and the other, known as "Three Word" Brand because of his economy of speech, is a rancher. Brand's partner, George Barton, is framed for murder by the owners of an adjoining ranch, since he and Brand are opposed to a bill that would give control of water rights to politicians. The governor, who is urged to sign the act, resolves to investigate the matter himself; when Brand notices their strong resemblance, he goes to the capital, impersonates the governor (having Marsden detained), vetoes the water rights act, and signs a pardon for Barton. Meanwhile, he returns to find that Marsden, mistaken by his enemies for Brand, has been wounded. Brand then evens the score with them, learns of his brother's identity, and wins the hand of Ethel, his partner's sister.
