Synopsis

When John Trevor is about to go broke on Wall Street, George Lathrop, who is engaged to Trevor's daughter, Alice, promises to lend him $100,000. Since he has squandered his own inheritance, George obtains the sum by the theft of some negotiable securities from wealthy Sam Millington, whose son, Jack, has entrusted him with the keys to the family safe. Alice finds out that George is frequently visited by Clarita Ortega at his apartment, and, suspecting him of infidelity, she breaks the engagement. Jack Millington, discovering both the theft and the reason for it, decides to clear George: he lends Trevor the necessary capital, buys back the stolen securities, and, by faking an automobile accident, convinces his father that the securities have been in his possession the whole time. George realizes that he loves Clarita, who is his ward, and who turns out to be the long-lost daughter of John Trevor. Alice marries an Italian count.
