Synopsis

Bill Latimer, a dishonest rancher, is attempting to obtain possession of a valuable oil lease held by neighbors Ellen Briscoe and her father by preventing them from renewing before expiration. On the day the renewal must be made, Latimer detains them at the door of their home. A half hour before forfeiture time, a mysterious stranger rides by, notes the predicament, and helps by secretly accepting the lease and taking it to the bank. There, after a fistfight with Latimer's men, he has it renewed on the stroke of three. The stranger, who is actually Tom King, uncle of Bud Martin, an orphaned boy in the Briscoe household, returns to the Briscoes, still keeping secret his identity, and begins to develop the oil prospects. Possessed by greed when he sees that there is oil on the land, Latimer shoots Briscoe and blames King; but Briscoe recovers and names Latimer as his assailant. Tom, having escaped from jail, rescues his nephew from Latimer, who has kidnaped the boy, and takes Latimer prisoner. All ends happily for King, his nephew, and the Briscoes.
