Synopsis
Spurred by her father's financial difficulties, Claudia Payton marries Jerome Landis for his wealth but later finds happiness in his love and her devotion to their infant son. Financial difficulties still plague Claudia, however, in the form of Landis' nephew Harry, who has played on her sympathies to extract an allowance from her. When Claudia is finally forced to tell Harry that she cannot give him another cent, he schemes to destroy her marriage by appearing in her bedroom and thus creating a compromising situation. Harry's plan works and Landis sues for divorce. The judge is about to grant it on circumstantial evidence when Claudia enlists the aid of her friend, Sanford King, to frame the judge's wife in similar circumstances. Relenting, the judge grants the divorce but allows Claudia custody of her child for six months of the year. Later Harry is fatally injured in an auto accident and makes a death-bed confession which exonerates Claudia. Landis then realizes the terrible wrong that he has done his wife and going to her penitently, is forgiven.
