Synopsis

Wilkins, a bookkeeper in the employ of Bates & Stryker for 20 years, has long expected a raise, promised annually by President Bates, which would enable him to marry Emily, a stenographer. Stryker sympathetically tries to intervene on his behalf but succeeds only in hiring Jimmy, a hungry boy seeking work, as Wilkins' assistant. His senior employer's son, Don, who is desperately in debt, pawns off on Wilkins some property that proves to be under water; Wilkins strikes oil, however, buys out Bates's stock in the company, and decides to retain Bates as general manager. Wilkins and Emily then get married, as do Jimmy and Stryker's daughter, Dorothy.
