Synopsis

While visiting her uncle, the American consul in Tangiers, Elaine Calvert inadvertently incurs the wrath of the sultan and is kidnaped by Abou Ben-Ek and his men, who hope to gain favor with the sultan. At the request of the consul, Commander Millgrate leads a group of marines into the desert to rescue Elaine, who is now in the protective custody of Chiddar Ben-Ek. Millgrate pursues the sheik with the permission of the sultan, who knows the commander, to Chiddar's father and captures him. At the sight of Chiddar's mother Millgrate realizes Chiddar's identity, releases his son, and resigns his commission. Chiddar refuses Millgrate's friendship but later rescues him and Oulaid (Chiddar's mother) when they are captured by the sultan. Millgrate dies from torture; Chiddar and Oulaid return to the desert with Elaine's promise of future happiness.
