Synopsis

Lucille Caruthers disagrees with her father, a proud Southern colonel, that a woman's place is in the home and goes to New York to make a name for herself on the stage. Serge Ratakin, an actor who has fallen in love with Lucille, coaches her so successfully that she attracts the attention of an important producer, Edwin Archer. Maddened with jealousy when Archer gives her the leading role in his new play, Serge goes to Lucille's apartment on opening night and threatens to throw vitriol in her face. Lucille shoots him, hides his body behind a screen, and makes her debut successfully. After the performance, Archer discovers the body, but after examining it, Dr. Richard Sheldon declares that Serge was killed by lightning. Lucille returns to her old home and marries Richard.
