Synopsis
Ben Wilson, a simple country boy, is constantly bullied and belittled by his older brother, Bill, a halfhearted, inferior fellow who becomes Bill's rival for the affections of Adeline, a new girl in town. Possessed of a good tenor voice, Ben makes a hit singing a new song called "Sweet Adeline." Given a chance to go to Chicago to sing in a cabaret, Ben changes his singing style and dresses in a suit. He is an instant flop. Backstage, he takes off his collar, screws up his courage, and returns onstage to sing "Sweet Adeline" in the country style. He becomes a great success and wins Adeline's love for life.
