Synopsis

Society heiress Janetta Gildersleeve, who is under the guardianship of her Uncle Andrew, meets financier Roland Winfield, a former enemy of her father, at a dance. Driving to another party, she strikes a tramp on the roadside and is severely lectured by Barney Hoyt, who stops to give assistance. The next day, her uncle informs her that her father's holdings are worthless with the exception of the North Star Copper Mine and that a single-track railroad must be built if the mine is to become productive. Janetta goes to the region and, concealing her identity, takes a job as clerk in the local general store. The Winfields, owners of a rival mine, attempt to frustrate her rights to option, but with the aid of Hoyt, who does not suspect her identity, she finishes the railroad and foils Winfield's plot to dynamite the track bridge. She reveals herself to Hoyt, and they become romantically attached.
