Synopsis

Howard Lake, an American diplomat on a mission to Buda-Pesth [sic], is distressed when his wife, Denise, becomes entangled in a series of romantic flirtations culminating in the attempted suicide of a youth. He determines to teach her a lesson; and that evening, Denise meets Tade Adrian, a young violinist, in a fashionable restaurant and is captivated by him. Howard conceives a scheme whereby he pays Adrian to make love to his wife, but when Adrian comes to believe that she actually loves him, he abrogates the agreement. Learning about Adrian's boorish peasant family, Howard invites them to the restaurant where Adrian is appearing; and Denise, shocked by their vulgarity, promises never to flirt again and returns home with her husband.
