Synopsis

On the island of Sylaco, Nostromo, who is heralded as a brave and good man, is betrothed to Linda, though she actually loves Ramírez, while her cousin Giselle, who slaves in the local inn, deeply loves Nostromo. Gould, an Englishman who owns a silver mine, hires Nostromo to protect his silver train from bandits. In a battle with the thieves, Nostromo transfers the silver to a hay wagon and leads it to safety. His sailing vessel is wrecked in the harbor by the bandits, and torn between his forced bethrothal to Linda and his desire for Giselle, he weakens and hides the silver on an island, hoping to escape with Giselle; however, she rejects him for his dishonesty, and he is redeemed after confessing to Gould.
