Synopsis

Edwin Ainsworth, a successful playwright, marries Grace Carruthers, and Edwin's mother does everything in her power to make life miserable for the newlywed couple, insinuating that Grace is in love with Harold Chase, an opera impresario. Eventually the mother's meddling causes the couple to separate, and Edwin becomes infatuated with Madeline, a cabaret dancer who works in a bootleg joint. Edwin is later knocked unconscious in a fight with Madeline's dancing partner and loses his memory, being led by Madeline to believe that he is John Wells, a notorious bootlegger. Grace believes John to be dead and marries Harold Chase. Edwin later regains his memory and returns to Grace; Madeline follows and shoot him dead on his front doorstep. It all turns out to have been a dream, however.
