Synopsis

Dr. Laurel Carlisle, a bacteriologist, marries millionaire Clinton Durand so that she may finance her laboratory experiments, even though she is in love with her co-worker, Dr. Leslie. Clinton treats her so brutally that only her love for her son Donald prevents her from leaving him. After Clinton takes Donald on a journey through the woods, the boy dies of pneumonia, whereupon Laurel, whom Clinton has blamed for the child's death, focuses all her attention on developing a cure for anthrax. Dr. Leslie allows himself to be injected with the deadly disease so that Laurel may test her serum, but Clinton jealously smashes the test tube containing the formula. Laurel frantically prepares more serum, injecting Leslie just in time to save his life, while Clinton, having cut his hand in Laurel's laboratory, absorbs the anthrax bacteria and dies in misery.
