Synopsis
The people of Purity hate Martin Bradley because of his heavy drinking, but he nonetheless devotes all of his time to upgrading the quality of life in the town. He supports two women who have been made social outcasts; and then, during a mayoral campaign, he exposes the campaign tricks of James Durkel. This action assures the election of Chester Thorndyke, the son of Martin's ex-sweetheart, who, by jilting Martin, had been the cause of his alcoholism. After electing Chester, the townspeople insist that he renounce the disreputable Martin, but the new mayor refuses. Meanwhile Martin, whose role as guardian angel is still unrecognized, gives up drinking and continues looking out for the welfare of Purity.
