Synopsis
Meyer, chief of police of Elmdale, and his friend Riley of the fire department are rivals for Penelope, a fascinating widow whom they both escort to the local circus and carnival. There, Molly, a girl who has eluded her guardians, meets Steve, Meyer's son, and the two fall in love. Meanwhile, Meyer and Riley are taken in by a sharper who operates a photo machine and a shell game and has an eye on the widow's wealth. Montague, perceiving that a successful demonstration of Riley's fire extinguisher would spoil his chances with the widow, fills it with gasoline; as a result Montague and the widow are trapped in a burning building. Molly, who has discovered the hoax, proves the worth of the invention and becomes engaged to Steve, while Riley wins the widow. Montague is arrested.
