Synopsis
Caught kissing an actor, Nora Dowen is hustled into marrying Hiram Judd, a harsh, miserly elder neighbor, but she soon runs away and joins a traveling group of actors. While trying to make good in her new profession, Nora has a child and sends him to live with her mother. Hiram gets his hands on the boy and tries to teach him to hate his mother. Nora does not progress beyond a "fifth rate" New York company, but she does find happiness as the wife of a former sweetheart when Hiram is killed by a train.
