Synopsis

In order to make a name for himself, Adrian Boldero publishes a late friend's novel as his own, and is soon hailed as a literary genius. The pressure mounts to write a second masterpiece, but Adrian dies without producing another acceptable manuscript. Even though he has discovered the fraud, Jaffery, a friend of the famous "writer," presents Adrian's widow Doria, whom he has always loved, with a novel of his own, and tells her that it had been left by her husband. After the success of the new book, Doria learns the truth about Adrian's literary output and, primarily out of gratitude, offers to marry Jaffery. By this time, however, Jaffery has cooled towards Doria, and has become engaged to Liosha, whom he met in the Balkans during his time spent there as a war correspondent.
