Synopsis

In San Francisco, Anne Mertons marries a dishonest gambler named Hugo, who forces her to assist him in his nefarious schemes. When he plans to fleece Ward, a rich Honolulu settler, however, Anne intervenes and Ward catches him. When Hugo attacks Anne, she shoots him, and then, believing him dead, she flees to Honolulu. On the steamer, she meets wealthy sugar plantation owner Mrs. Heathe and her son Rodney, who invite her to stay in their home. Anne and Rodney fall in love, but their happiness is threatened when Hugo arrives in Honolulu and moves into a hut with Aho, an Hawaiian girl. Hugo discovers Anne's whereabouts and takes her to his hut, where she overhears his plan to set fire to the sugar plantations with Koske, a German spy. Anne hurries to warn Rodney, but the fire is already burning. As she helps Rodney and his men to extinguish the flames, she witnesses Hugo, his clothes ablaze, plunging from a cliff to his death.
