Synopsis

Left alone and penniless after her father dies, Eileen Orton attempts suicide. Douglas Seward, who must be married to obtain the position he seeks, befriends Eileen and offers to support her if she will pose as his wife. At first the plan succeeds, but while Douglas is working on a construction project in South America, his lecherous boss, Terence Craver, becomes infatuated with Eileen and tries to seduce her. Exhausted from illness and overwork, Douglas returns home just as Craver is attempting to force his attentions on his employee's "wife." In a rage, Douglas attacks Craver and throws him out of the house. Realizing that they are in love, Douglas and Eileen decide to end their masquerade and discover what married life is really like.
