Synopsis

Helen Armes, a trained nurse from the country, spends New Year's Eve with her cousin Evelyn Howell and her husband. They go with Lyle Bane, Mrs. Howell's lover, to a Broadway cabaret where Lyle's brother Temple, a quiet man who has lost his faith in women, sees Lyle's attraction to Helen. When Lyle tries to kiss Helen, the jealous Mrs. Howell, seeing this, orders Helen to leave. After Lyle lies to Temple, saying that Helen forced the embrace, their quarrel ends with Temple blinded by a blow on the head from a candelabrum. Under an assumed name, Helen nurses Temple and later persuades Lyle, planning to rob Temple, to join the army. When Temple regains his vision, he curses Helen. Upon learning of Lyle's death at the front, Helen breaks the news to Temple who apologizes and reveals that Lyle's spirit came to him and confessed his lie. Temple and Helen marry.
