Synopsis

John Barrett, known as "King Spruce" because of his lumber empire, conspires with his foreman Colin McLeod to entice schoolteacher Dwight Wade away to the lumber camps in order to disrupt the romance between Wade and Barrett's daughter Elva. Subsequently, Barrett decides to visit his timber land to burn out the squatters who have settled on his land. In revenge, Kate Arden, one of the squatters, sets fire to the woods. There is another vengeance awaiting Barrett, though: Kate is his own daughter by the wife of a woodsman who, in an act of recompense, ties Barrett to a tree in the midst of the raging fires. Wade saves the lumber king, who acknowledges Kate as his daughter and then attempts to be rid of her by bribing his foreman to marry the wild girl. Wade confronts Barrett with his duplicity, forcing the lumber king to recognize not only his daughter, but also Wade's strength. Barrett then offers him both a partnership in the business and Elva's hand in marriage.
