Synopsis

Vera Herbert, who has remained naïve through her simple life at an English school, comes to visit her unprincipled mother, Lady Dolly, who is openly living with Lord Jura. The moral indifference she finds drives her to the quiet haunts of the sea shore, where she meets and falls in love with Correze, the opera singer. However, Lady Dolly, possessing social ambitions, insists that her daughter marry Prince Zuroff of Russia. Vera obeys, and soon discovers that her husband is harboring his mistress, Duchess De Sonnaz, under the same roof. A scene follows in which the prince banishes his wife to a Russian monastery where she is followed by Correze and Lord Jura. Correze entreats Vera to go with him, and she is about to succumb to his impassioned plea when the prince enters the room. Words are followed by a duel in which the prince and Lord Jura are killed, freeing Vera to marry Correze, the man she loves.

Notes

The scenario included in the copyright descriptions was entitled "The Greatest Sacrifice." Sources conflict concerning the spelling of the name of the actress playing "Jeanne De Sonnaz," listing her variously as Callie Torres, Callie Terres, and Caille Torrez.
