Synopsis
Disowned by his wealthy father because he refuses to abandon his pursuit of an artistic career for one in business, San Franciscan Roger Curwell descends into a state of drunkenness. After he is knocked senseless in a fight at Hell Morgan's infamous Barbary Coast saloon, Morgan's daughter Lola takes pity on him, and under her influence, Roger gradually refrains from drinking and takes a job playing piano in Morgan's dance hall. Lola's concern earns Roger the enmity of crook Sleter Noble, who considers the girl to be his property. One night, a slumming party of Roger's former friends visits the dance hall and informs him that he has inherited his father's millions. Soon after, Sleter appears and threatens to shoot Roger. To save Roger's life, Lola agrees to accompany Sleter to his room. Morgan, hearing his daughter's screams, rushes to aid her and is shot by Sleter. The two then flee from the building just as the great earthquake occurs. Seeking refuge in a park, Lola and Morgan are reunited with Roger.
