Synopsis

Nicolo Rosetti leads a happy, if poor life growing flowers which his mother sells. When she becomes ill and the doctor prescribes a better climate, Nicolo buys land in Arizona which he finds is arid wasteland. A railroad construction gang, thinking that Nicolo is the forerunner of an influx of cheap Italian labor, tries to make him leave, but they are soon won over by Nicolo's motherless son Beppo and help Nicolo build a shack. When his mother dies, the men encourage Nicolo to remarry so that Beppo can have a mother. After he writes to a cousin in Italy, a bride, Tina Ferronni, arrives. Disappointed, Tina takes Beppo to Italy, ostensibly to visit his dying maternal grandmother, but in reality she is eloping with a clerk. After she writes that Beppo has died, the men in Arizona secretly pay for an investigation. The day that Beppo returns, the grieving Nicolo strikes oil. Nicolo joyously receives Beppo and shares his newly found wealth with his friends.
