Synopsis

Count George De Dazetta, known as The Hawk, preys upon society with the aid of his beautiful wife Marina. On the gaming tables, the couple separates the rich from their wealth until Marina meets young French nobleman Rene De Tierrache and falls in love. The Hawk, learning that Rene has broken with the young aristocrat whom his mother had chosen for him to marry, accuses Marina of infidelity and then leaves her. Under French law, a wife may procure a divorce as long as she has the consent of her husband, and to facilitate this, Rene attempts to locate the gambler to gain his consent. He finds The Hawk destitute, having spent his last cent on Marina, and having turned to drugs for comfort. Seeing The Hawk in such a wretched state, Marina's heart goes out to him, and she foresakes Rene to return to her husband.
