Synopsis

To comply with the stipulations of his wealthy grandfather's will, John Glenarm must reside in his purportedly haunted estate for a period of one year, or forfeit the estate to Marian Deveraux, a young schoolteacher. John is ill prepared for the mysterious events that occur, but perseveres until he begins to fall in love with Marian, whom he fails to recognize as his rival. When she leaves for the city, John follows, and upon his return, is informed by his grandfather's attorney, Arthur Pickering, that he must forfeit the estate. Just at that moment, the very alive John Glenarm Sr., appears and admits that his death was a ruse to test his grandson's character. John, Jr., having passed the trial, inherits both the estate and Marian's love.
