Synopsis

The German monarchy having fallen upon hard times, Count Fredrich von Ritz comes to the Pennsylvania Dutch country as a clothes wringer salesman. He soon falls in love with Meena Bauer, who knows nothing of his royal status, but before the romance can develop fully, Fredrich receives some money from the family estate, and uses it to move to New York. A few months later, after her father has died and left her a fortune, Meena also goes to New York, where she once again meets Fredrich. Each remains unaware of the other's social position, however, as he believes that Meena is working as a servant, and she is certain that Fredrich has gone from peddling wringers to selling books. They fall in love all over again, and then, after their wedding, Meena discovers that she has become a countess, while a delighted Fredrich realizes that he has married a millionaire.
