Synopsis

Bradley West, an antique collector, agrees to adopt Little Marie, a French war orphan, to please his wife. Marie and a servant's son, George Washington Jones, Jr., get into mischief, irritating West, until Hulda, a new maid, objects to Marie playing with a black boy. Marie then whitewashes George and shocks the guests at a tea party when she introduces him. After Marie becomes friends with Trent Gordon, West's nephew and secretary, she confuses Trent's sweetheart, Phyllis Dare, when her doll is mistakenly sent to Phyllis by Trent instead of flowers. Meanwhile, crooks desiring a sacred Hindu idol that West has obtained, drug Trent. When he refuses to give West's safe combination and is allowed to return, Phyllis mistakes his drugged state for drunkenness. When the burglars break into the safe, with Hulda's help, they awaken Marie, who locks the leader in the safe until Trent comes and captures them. Marie now becomes West's object of affection.
