Synopsis

Pegeen O'Barry lives in a little Irish fishing village with her kindhearted but alcoholic father and her brutal stepmother Moll. After O'Barry is killed in a drunken brawl, Pegeen runs away to the shore to vent her grief, where she attracts the attention of Sir Arthur Ormsby, an Englishman who is cruising along the coast in his yacht. Sir Arthur offers her protection, and along with her friend Jerry O'Flynn and his parrot, she soon settles into the Ormsby estate. Pegeen and Sir Arthur develop a strong affection for each other, and all goes well until Arthur's dissolute brother Guy arrives followed by a chorus girl named Kitty Brice. Guy attempts to win Pegeen's love by suggesting that Arthur loves Kitty, which Pegeen believes, until Arthur explains that he really loves her. Guy returns to Kitty and Arthur finds happiness with Pegeen.
